FAQ

Quick answers to common questions about Local Events listings.

What types of events can be listed in the app?

Our app is designed to promote free, public community events that anyone can attend. If your event helps bring the community together, it’s likely a good fit.

Examples of events that work well
  • Community & charity events: church fêtes and fairs, charity fundraisers, community centre open days, local volunteer events
  • Markets & fairs: craft markets, community markets, car boot sales, seasonal fairs (Christmas, Easter, summer)
  • Family & community activities: family fun days, park events, outdoor cinema nights, local festivals
  • Workshops & learning: free craft workshops, community classes, history talks, museum events
  • Seasonal & holiday events: Christmas markets, Halloween trails, Easter egg hunts, summer festivals
Events that may not be suitable

Some events may not be appropriate for a public listing, especially if they are intended only for a specific group.

  • Private or restricted events: school events intended only for parents/students, private parties, members-only club events
  • Security-sensitive locations: events inside schools during school hours, events where organisers cannot safely accommodate the general public

Schools sometimes run fundraising events for parents and pupils only, and those may be better promoted through school newsletters or parent apps. However, if a school hosts a public event open to the whole community (for example a summer fair or car boot sale), it may still be suitable.

Quick rule of thumb

An event is usually suitable if it is:

  • Free to attend (though there may be costs associated with the event if you need to book or pay for a workshop)
  • Open to the public
  • Safe for the general community to visit
  • Hosted by a legitimate organisation or group
What about the paid events package?

That’s a separate paid Events package we’re looking at building long term. It won’t apply to you unless you decide you want to move your full business onto Cosmos — and it’s not ready yet.
